III. WIN Regional Workshop: Latin America

This is one of a series of WIN-sponsored Regional Workshops being held in Latin America, South Asia, Francophone and Anglophone West Africa.

This workshop will focus on different approaches for identifying and combating corruption in the water and sanitation sector at the sectoral, institutional and community levels, involving the private and public sectors, civil society and the donor community. Experience, both positive and negative, will be shared from projects in Latin America and further afield. The reasons for the successes and possible approaches to overcoming failures will be presented and debated.

Objectives

This joint workshop will bring together water and sanitation sector and anti-corruption focused professionals and community leaders in Latin America, possibly in many cases for the first time, to share ideas and experiences. It is intended to lead to:

• Widely shared existing experiences, problems, opportunities and ongoing activities in Latin America relating to transparency, corruption and accountability in water and sanitation, and best practices in anti-corruption.
• New partnerships between water and sanitation and anti-corruption professionals and organisations.
• Ideas and commitments for joint regional and country level activities to improve transparency and accountability and prevent corruption in the water and sanitation sector in Latin America

How to participate?

The workshop is part of, and open to all participants of, the Latin American Sanitation Conference (Latinosan) being held in Cali from 12-16 November 2007. All participants will need to be registered for the overall conference (www.latinosan2007.net). English-Spanish translation will be provided.

Call for Presentations

The organisers would be interested to receive proposals for presentations or posters related to any of the above themes. Short abstracts of less than 250 words with a title and contact details should be send to the coordinators named below by 15 August 2007.
