The WIN WORKSHOP SERIES 2007-2008
There are as many different perspectives to understanding the phenomenon of corruption as there are diverse views and strategies to address it. This highlights the need for stakeholders to discuss the different approaches for identifying and combating corruption in the water sector. The WIN WORKSHOP SERIES 2007/2008 has been created to provide an opportunity for these different stakeholders to come together and map problems, causes and possible solutions. The series marks a novel approach as it brings together water professionals and people from the anti-corruption movement in places as different as Ouagadougou in Burkina Faso, Cali in Colombia or Dhaka in Bangladesh.
Each regional workshop succeeded to bring a diverse range of actors from the grassroots, civil society and governmental level around one table to exchange experiences and learn from each other. These experiences are compiled in this report with the intention to find commonalities and differences and disseminate the information on a global level to allow committed people to join forces and address the problem of corruption in the water sector.
The WIN WORKSHOP REPORT
This report is divided into two parts. The first part contains a summary and synthesis of the workshop outcomes, highlighting corruption problems, recommendations, lessons learnt and follow-up activities that were developed at the regional workshops. This part aims to show the extent to which different regions share similar problems and what common solutions there may be to tackle them. The second part of the report provides more detailed information on the topics and case studies that were discussed at each workshop. The overall intention of this report is to provide the reader with an overview of ongoing anti-corruption activities in the water sector, the respective actors and their experiences and recommendations. The Annex contains an overview of each workshop and a list of WIN partner organisations that were involved in the organisation of the workshops.
