Panchayat Raj Movement (PRM), India

Formation of Village level Watch-dog Committees to Monitor the Water Projects of the Government for Drinking and Irrigation Needs

Micro Grant (MG10), 2,000 EUR

Currently it is estimated that corruption is rampant in 10 villages in Pudukottai district, Tamil Nadu, especially within the administration and contractual arrangements of water distribution projects initiated by the local government. Corruption appears to be experienced in a discriminatory manner – often by low caste communities in accessing safe and adequate drinking water for their daily needs.

Panchayat Raj Movement (PRM) will be working towards the formation of village level watch-dog committees for effective monitoring of water distribution for drinking and irrigation needs. PRM will also be working closely with local residents, other NGOs and government departments to ensure transparency and participation in the bidding processes related to the approval of water projects in the local area.
