Water Source Mapping, Socio-Economic Data Collection and Analysis for Anti-Corruption Advocacy in the Water Sector
Micro Grant (MG27), 2,000 EUR
The objective of the project is to reduce corruption levels as manifested in the water distribution facilities in Ggombe. For quite some time the allocation of water sources have been perceived to be a reward for making the right political vote at election times.
The project therefore aims to mobilise the local community actors, as well as private and public sector organisations to participate in water source mapping and household surveys. Data collected will help to draw linkages between water quality, number of households served by each point, as well as a socio-economic analysis of the local population. Through GIS mapping software, this will help to conduct an analysis for correlations such as more water sources among wealthier communities and poorer quality water in marginalised communities.
The analysis and evidence generated will be disseminated amongst the local actors to develop plans for an advocacy agenda towards transparent and equitable distribution of water and to establish structures at the community level to increase community involvement in anti-corruption initiatives. Simultaneously, YIFODA will work on a document to highlight the National Water Policy to help local government and communities combat corruption in the sector.
