Access to information, transparency and citizen participation in the cleaning up of the Matanza-Riachuelo Basin in Argentina
Small Grant (SG11), 2,000 EUR
The main purpose of the project is to promote citizen participation and transparency through the implementation of a tool for monitoring public procurement processes in the bidding processes and implementation for the clean up and infrastructure works in the polluted Matanza-Riachuelo Basin by the Argentinean government and Basin Authority.
Working in collaboration with the Foundation for Environment and Natural Resources (FARN), in order to achieve our purpose we propose the development of a website and an online database that will contain public information regarding the use of the budget for the clean-up operations of the basin, specifically a database with information about procurement processes and awarded contracts, contractors.
Through this website, citizens will be able to monitor the carrying out of the different works, including the use of funds. Secondly we will train local CSOs on the importance and benefits of this tool and how to use it. The website will be interactive and will allow citizens and organizations to make comments and upload files (photos, videos). Finally we will monitor and analyse legal and environmental aspects linked to the cleaning up operations.
