The new Water Integrity Network Association was founded in Berlin, Germany, on Monday 9 September 2013. While the WIN-Secretariat in its incubation phase was hosted and legally represented by Transparency International, the new Association will be its new legal umbrella. This is in line with WIN’s Global Strategy 2011-2016. The new entity is envisaged to become operational as of 1 January 2014. The Association has both institutional and individual formal members, a small group who are ultimately responsible for its governance, in contrast to the much larger informal membership of the many organisations and individuals who are working within the Water Integrity Network.
The founding members of the Association are: Transparency International (TI), Stockholm International Water Institute (SIWI), International Water and Sanitation Centre (IRC), Global Water Partnership (GWP), Aquafed, Ravi Narayanan, Donal O’Leary, Thomas Zeller, and Susanne Weber-Mosdorf. In addition, UNESCO-IHE, Aziza Akhmouch and Henk van Schaik were admitted as members.
The founding meeting appointed as Supervisory Board: Ravi Narayanan (Chair), Håkan Tropp of SIWI (Treasurer), Thomas Zeller (Secretary), Chantal Uwimana of TI and Susanne Weber-Mosdorf.
The content of WIN’s work will not change by this transition. Transparency International and the WIN-Secretariat are working hard to ensure a smooth transfer of business. In the coming months the organisation will be further set-up. The WIN Association will continue the implementation of the WIN Global Strategy, promoting integrity in the water sector to reduce corruption and to ensure the sustainable and equitable use of water resources and a clean and healthy environment, in particular for the benefit of the poor.
