While the human rights to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation are universally recognised, they are not universally implemented, leaving billions of people without access to safe and clean drinking water and safely managed sanitation. Achieving the SDGs and the promise of ‘leaving no one behind’ requires dialogue between civil society and parliamentarians whose mandate is it to represent citizens and who can hold government to account for service delivery and expenditure.
