Stockholm World Water Week 2017: Water and waste – reduce and reuse

Integrity and governance event highlights

We are looking forward to seeing you at the World Water Week in Stockholm in August!

Several WIN team members and partners will be present and available to discuss integrity and good practices to promote integrity further, especially in wastewater management, this year’s focus topic.

Join us for a presentation of our findings on integrity risks and wastewater management at our joint seminar with Stockholm International Water Institute, the International Water Association, UNDP-SIWI Water Governance Facility and the World Water Council

Governance of water and waste: a key to sustainable development?

Thursday 31 August | 14.00-15.30 | Room: FH 202

This seminar addresses governance of water and waste with a particular emphasis on wastewater management and reuse. The seminar will concentrate on various areas of integrating water resources management; reducing and reusing waste; managing water and waste in the urban context and promoting integrity and anti-corruption in the water and waste sectors.

We’ll be presenting information on integrity risks in wastewater management, which have so far received little systematic attention. Untreated wastewater is often discharged in rivers, lakes, drains or into the groundwater. Such illicit practices harm public health, crops and the environment, violate national and international rules and often occur in conjunction with corruption. Planning, building and managing wastewater treatment and reuse facilities our processes are fraught with their own integrity risks. Urgent action is needed to promote more transparency, accountability, participation, and anti-corruption in the sub-sector.
